50 Years of Cuban Photography

A Visiting Arts funded project. An exhibition at the Royal National Theatre in London of ten Cuban photographers whose work covers the period from the American-influenced Cuba of the pre-Revolutionary years through the Revolution itself to modern Cuba. This retrospective included Albert Korda´s ´Geurrillero Heroico´, the iconic portrait of Che Guevara from 1960. Other photographers who featured in the exhibition include three of Korda´s most distinguished contemporaries: Raul Corrales, Tito Alvarez, and Constantino Arias Miranda. The exhibition also showcased the works of a younger generation of Cuban photographers - Raul Canibano Ercilla, Eduardo Munoz Ordoqui and Christobal Herrera Ulashkevich were all born after the Revolution and their work demonstrates the continued vitality of photography in modern-day Cuba. Works by Jose Alberto Figueroa, Mario Diaz Leyva, José Marti and Jose Manual Fors were also exhibited.
