culturebase.net is a high quality database and information source on international artists. culturebase.net is a unique European initiative of five innovative cultural players and their partners for the promotion of international art and cultural exchange.
culturebase.net is a resource documenting the work of international artists, performers and promoters who have been active in Europe within the last ten years. Artists from geographical regions as diverse as Asia, Africa, Latin America, Middle East, Central and Eastern Europe are featured on this database. This includes international contemporary artists who are involved and engaged in cultural exchange.
The participating partner institutions select artists for culturebase.net. These artists are associated with an artistic project or event that was either organized or supported by the partner institutions. culturebase.net provides information on these projects too.
culturebase.net offers a reliable and up-to-date source of information for art enthusiasts, producers, curators, artists, the media and opinion makers.
The main part of the artists' portraits is based on specialized journalists' research information. These extensive, cutting-edge articles are about both prominent or less-known international artists, some of whom are nearly impossible to find on the Internet. The portraits contain information - which can include multimedia files - on work and life of the artists.
You can search culturebase.net by artist name, region, genre etc. A special feature called crossroads also enables you to make unexpected connections between artists. Crossroads place the artists and their work in new, narrative contexts.
culturebase.net is a project developed by the Baltic Sea Culture Center, Poland, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Germany, Intercult, Sweden, Visiting Arts, Great Britain, and the Danish Center for Culture and Development, Denmark, with the support of the Culture 2000 programme of the European Union.
