Making a Durga

16October02 - 27October02

A Visiting Arts funded project. As part of the new Edinburgh Dusshera Festival in 2002, a four foot high statue of goddess Durga was created by Nemali Chandra Paul and Biswajit Chakraborty, two sculptors from the Kolbata village of Kumartuli, an area famed for its hereditary sculptors. The statue was made at the Royal Museum, Edinburgh in the traditional Indian manner and the project incorporated an interactive education programme
