Expression through movement

Leszek Bzdyl is a dancer, choreographer, stage director and modern dance lecturer. He has extensive collaborative experience with theatres both in Poland and abroad, and is the founder and artistic director of Dada von Bzdulow Theatre in Poland.
Dance theatre is too simple a definition for Bzdyl´s work. He describes his art as a theatrical draft, a choreographical theatre, a theatre liberated from conventions. He exploits dance as the most effective way to engage the body in a creative process. His aesthetic language refers to Dada in terms of its fragmentary vision, juggling with emotions, allowance for incidents.
While a plot may not be obvious, the concept of Bzdyl´s performances lies in intimate communication through connotative messages.
Leszek Bzdyl participates in the project SEAS, initiated by Intercult, Stockholm. He co-operates with visual artist Robert Rumas in the creation of ODYS-SEAS, a wandering event/performance, including boat trip and walk. The concept is related to the historic shipyards in Gdansk, Poland. ODYS-SEAS is part of the SEAS Events 2004 taking place in Lithuania, Kaliningrad, Latvia and Poland in july-september 2004.

Bio

Leszek Bzdyl started his professional career in 1987 by working with Henryk Tomaszewski´s Wroclaw Pantomime Theatre and the Wojciech Misuro´s Teatr Ekspresji.
Since then Bzdyl has co-operated with theatres all over Poland as a choreographer and stage movement director. He has participated in the production of nearly 40 spectacles.
He has participated in a number of international productions, among which The Rape of Europe, a part of Landscape X: EURALIEN, a production of Intercult, Stockholm.
In 1993 he founded the Dada von Bzdulow Theatre together with Katarina Chmielewska, Aurora Lubos and other independent actors and dancers. Since its establishment the Dada Theatre has created over 25 projects performed in contemporary dance and alternative theatre festivals in Poland and abroad.
Since 1990 Bzdyl has been conducting theatre workshops and dance classes. He has lectured in the Ballet School of Gdansk, as well as in the Performing Arts School (Studium Wokalno-Aktorskie) at the Musical Theatre in Gdynia.
