Media art between theory and instinct

The young media-artist Hassan Khan works with videos, composes music for spoken and danced dramas and does writing and translations prompted by theorising and instinct.
Hassan Khan is one of Cairo´s young multi-talents. He studied English and comparative literature at the American University in Cairo and now makes video-films and -installations, composes music (e.g. for plays staged by the director Ahmed El Attar and the choreographer Karima Mansour), and writes as an author, journalist and translator. He defines his position as follows: "My experiences with various media are born of the effort to define a theoretical position and the impulse to follow an undefined instinct."
His contribution to the event "Blue Stage" in the House of World Cultures in 2001 was a film showing the first room of his installation "Reading the Surface: 100 faces, 6 locations and 25 questions" (2001, Townhouse Gallery, Cairo), an excerpt from "this is THE political film" (1998) and his contribution to the Schweizer Hof3-Project for which international video-artists each made a two-minute video once a month for a year (1998-99).
