New images of the body
This Greek dance group with a Latin name was founded in 1992 and has been working since 1995 in Athens in developing its own vocabulary of movement.
At the core of the dance-group Sinequanon are four people. The group was founded in 1992 by the choreographers and dancers Apostolia Papadamaki, Dmitris Sotiriou, Anna-Sophia Kallinikidou and Kiki Baka and trained for two years in Merce Cunningham´s studio in New York. After returning to Athens in 1995, Sinequanon developed a vocabulary of its own. At the heart of work by this group of 8 is improvisation and coming to terms with music, which is mostly commissioned. ´Transmutations´ is the most recent of 10 full-length productions. With the video-artist Tassos Vrettos, Apostolia Papadamaki here explores new images of the body. Apart from working on productions of its own, Sinequanon contributes to contemporary Greek dance by organising dance festivals and has established the rehearsal and performance room ´Space´.
