Testing the margins of normality
Anne Lise´s works challenge the premises on which our community is based. She investigates the definition of normality and sets the focus on deviations from the norm – things that we often believe are universally given, which arouse a sense of ambivalence between the community and the private sphere.
Over the past 8 years Anne Lise has worked with what she prefer to call “video portraits”. In each project she uses different ways of storytelling - video, photography, sound and text. The subject of investigation is a variety of persons, places or both. The themes she works with are issues that evolve around cultural differences and antagonism in the social, political and public field. Her narrative structure is poetic and her subjects are people who are brought in to the centre from the periphery, people who live in the margins of normality and on the edge of society. The eccentrics and strange characters she focuses on are portrayed with astonishing integrity and dignity. Her documentary style reduces the distance between the spectator and these marginalised people and raises the question "what is normality?"
