Parissa was born in 1950 in Tonekabon, a city on the Caspian Sea. After leaving school, she went on to study singing and her career began in 1969 under the Ministry of Arts and Culture. She rapidly became extremely popular, both at home and abroad, giving numerous concerts, not only in Iran but also in France, Japan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. After the Islamic Revolution, Parissa was banned from performing in public. “Condemned to silence”, from 1979 to 1995 the only outlet she had for her musical creativity was as a music teacher. From 1995 on, though, she has been able to start giving concerts again outside Iran. She regularly tours Europe and the USA and has made a number of CDs, the earliest “Baz Amadam” in 1995, followed by “Tale of Love” in 1998, ”Tale of Love I” a year later, and ”Tale of Love II” in 2002. Her latest CD “Shorideh” was recorded in 2003 in Berlin together with the Dastan ensemble during their concert at the SFB.
