Lively Abstraction

Raul Saints Zerpa, known by the name Santoserpa, was born in Villa Clara in Cuba in 1939. He lives and works as a painter in Havana. His flowing abstract paintings take their inspiration in nature and the environment. He has had 29 solo exhibitions in Cuba and abroad and participated in over 330 group shows. Santoserpa has won many awards and his work is exhibited in international and national institutions including the National Museum of Cuba.
Raul Saints Zerpa was born in Cuba in 1939. He is better known by the name Santoserpa. His art training qualified him as a drawing and sculpture professor and he began teaching in the 1960s.

Santoserpa has been a member of the Writers and Artists Union of Cuba since 1965 and a member of the Visual Artists Association of UNESCO since 1979. He has sat as an expert on many visual arts juries and won prizes and distinctions. His works are exhibited in numerous international institutions, including in the National Museum of Cuba. He lives and works in Havana City.

Santoserpa’s abstract paintings are inspired by natural forms, people and the environment. They convey an ethereal, delicate quality with fluid brushwork and harmonious, beautiful compositions.

He has participated in over 300 group exhibitions during his long career as an artist in many countries including England, France, Italy, USA, India, Turkey, Mexico and Spain. In 2002 he was among a group of six artists from Cuba invited to the Forest of Dean in England to exhibit at Gloucester Cathedral and other venues and run workshops. As well as solo exhibitions, he has been selected for a number of shows taking contemporary Cuban art abroad.
