Article

Krassimir Sterev was born in 1969 in Bulgaria, where he took his first lessons in music and on the accordion under Nadejda Nicheva at the music school in Kazahlak. He studied the accordion further under Petar Marinov at the music high school in Plovdiv, then from 1990 to 1991 studied music theory and choir-conducting at the state music academy ´Pancho Vladigerov´ in Sofia. In 1991 he was accepted by the music university in Graz in Austria to study under the famous accordionist Mogens Ellegaard, then from 1994 to 1996 was awarded a grant to study at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. In 1997 he travelled to take part in a class for soloists in Copenhagen, where he then gave his debut concert in 1999. Sterev performs throughout Europe and has already been heard at many festivals including the Festival d’Automne à Paris, Steirischer Herbst in Graz, Wien Modern, the Lange Nacht der Neuen Klänge und Hörgänge in the Konzerthaus in Vienna, during the Viennese festival weeks, Musica Nova in Sofia, Thracian Summer in Plovdiv, the Olimpus festival in Greece, the Salzburg festival, La Musica de Nuestro Tiempo V in Madrid, the Festival International de Músicas Contemporâneas de Lisboa and the Huddersfield Festival of Contemporary Music. His more recent performances have including many appearance at the Klangforum Wien, with the London Philharmonia Orchestra, the Sharoun Ensemble of Berlin, the Sheland Orchestra of Copenhagen, the Musikwerkstatt and the Neuen Oper in Vienna, in the Schau-spielhaus in Graz, with the Ensemble Art Rezonanz of Graz, in the Schauspielhaus in Zürich and in various tango ensembles and drama groups.
