The painter and sculptor Melanitis Yiannis is concerned with the interface of art and technology in the real and digital worlds of interactive performances.
Melanitis Yiannis is a media artist. She studied painting and sculpture in Athens and under Jannis Kounellis at the Düsseldorf Academy of Art. For two years the 34 year old artist has been concerned with the interface between art and technology, the real and the digital worlds. Her interactive performances have been seen for instance in the Ileana Tounta Contemporary Art Center in Athens, at the Mediaterra Festival and in the New York Digital Salon. Her project ´Pleasure Machine´ is a dance between a body and a computer. On a computer there dances an avatar, whose movements are transferred by data-glasses onto a real dancer, who changes the virtual movements into real ones.
