Memories of the civil war

In 1976 Mahia Traboulsi founded the Atlas Group which has since preserved unknown aspects of the civil war in Lebanon in the form of notes, photos, videos and films and made them available to the public through lecture performances.
The Atlas Group was founded in 1976 by the artist Maha Traboulsi to research into audio-visual traces of the Lebanese civil war and since 1992 has been led by Walid Ra´ad, born in 1967. In recent years the group has been mainly involved in the project ´The dead Weight of a Quarrel hangs´, a growing collection of documents, notes, photos, films and videos meant to shed light on some still unfamiliar aspects of the war. The collection is shown in galleries, museums, art-centres, theatres and schools as well as at festivals, and a lecture-performance given by the group has likewise been recorded and called ´Fishing for documents: case studies from the Atlas archive.´
