Romanian photographic artist Aurora Dediu lives and works in Bucharest. With a Fine Art degree in painting from the Academy of Art, Bucharest, she moved into colour photography at the end of the 1990s. She exhibits her work in the form of installation montages.
Dediu refers to the constants in her work as: ´documentary recordings of situations, places and spaces using familiar images, enhancing the details and focusing on ordinary matters.´ She speaks of ´colour as a powerful tool in the creation/perception of an image.´
A project entitled ´Visual Notes´ used the eyewitness approach. Dediu captures small details of everyday life which are later assembled, like a puzzle, to create the finished work. As she says, ´The fragments start to have a meaning together, to connect and to create different visual links.´
Aurora Dediu has had three solo exhibitions in Romania since 1999 and participated in several group exhibitions in Romania, Hungary and Italy.
Her interest in international cultural collaboration was furthered by studying for a Masters in Cultural Management under the Ecumest programme in 1997-98. The programme included study periods in Bucharest, Dijon and Florence. She spent working internships at Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart and Manifesta 2 Info-Lab in Luxemburg.
Aurora Dediu was shortlisted for the Visiting Arts/Spike Island International Fellowship in 2001, nominated by Iosif Kiraly, Professor in the Photo-Video Department at the University of Arts, Bucharest.
