When the military regime in Madagascar fell apart in the late eighties, the cultural isolation of the Island ended with it. In those days, two sisters and three brothers discovered that they shared not just family ties, but a musical heritage, too. N´Java interwove Blues, Rock and Hip Hop with traditional Madagascan music and polished this special blend to perfection in Brussels, their new home. Their polyphonic singing is clothed in smooth Trip Hop beats, but their sources are often religious, ritual and folkloristic themes which are performed at weddings and during initiation rituals.
